Just what the Tea Partiers didn't want. This guy gets things done despite the harshest criticism. Another burr in the saddle for the rightwingnuts.

Speaking as a rightwingnut, not a tea partier, I'm happy we will avoid default and hopefully move towards smarter spending and a whole lot less waste. I'm thinking Obama was pretty much irrelevant to the deal-he just did too many pressers and issued orders.

Right, Ms.Pollysci, but it should only take all of ten minutes for the fault finding and blame to start.

McConnell & the Baggers will say no to this bill because it contains cuts to defense spending. Boehner is only a figurehead in the sinking Republican ship, I seriously doubt he'll get the support from his fellow party.

They appear to have an agreement. I guess we' ll see how the votes go, but Obama, Boehner and Reid say they have a deal.

it gives them everything they want.

2 more votes to condemn obama before the next election.

no tax cut roll backs.

if the government is dead locked.. we get more cuts and no new revenues... and the right can claim they were bound by law.

Based on what I've read about the deal so far, it's basically the original Boehner bill before the wacko Balanced Budget Amendment garbage was added to it. Congrats, Obama and the Dems, you negotiate against yourselves by continually allowing Republicans to dictate the terms of the debate and re-start negotiations further and further to the right-wing extreme. I mark this a failure for Obama. Once again, compromise is defined as Republicans, the mega-corproations and the super-rich getting everything they want, and the other 98% of America getting nothing.

This is what I would have done if I were the Republicans. I would have agreed to the debt ceiling increase and raise taxes but the raise in taxes could only be used to begin to pay down the principal of the debt and this could not be used to supplant the other money already being used to pay for the debt. Then no current money for the debt could be used for anything else and must continue to be spent on the debt. In addition, spending caps on all other programs and then the next step is serious reform to the entitlement programs and looking at the signifantly unfunded federal employee pension plans.

you mean you might take any surpluses and start to pay down our debt instead of giving tax cuts and launching a trillion dollar unfunded prescription drug program?

Got a quiz for you.. what part of government spending has nearly doubled since 2000.

NASA?

medicare?

NPR?

student loans?

SS?

department of defense?(not counting the wars)

the right want the poor to pay for the unprecedented expansion of our war machine

Hello Naughtia,

How much do the poor pay in federal income taxes? If I am correct about 50% of the people in the US don't pay any federal taxes and many in fact get tax refunds more than they originally put in? I agree enough with stop paying for wars bring that money back home, but can you really comprehend 14+ trillion in debt? What company or household would be allowed to function like this? The answer is none unless you want another collapse like we just went through. It is interesting that the government is functioning like a huge ponzi scheme just waiting to collapse. Really the only thing that has saved it so far, is us borrowing against our children, their grandchildren and their children. It is time we live within our means! Can you really argue against this?

    YELLOW DOG D.

Who, I sure am glad our government is not a company yet. I can not see it as a household either.

He said there will be no initial cuts to entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare. But he said both could be on the table along with changes in tax law as part of future cuts.

No Initial Cuts to Entitlement Programs? That is freaking scary! This whole thing was a stunt to try and make President Obama look bad for 2012 and it backfired on the Baggers because they've been getting emails and calls every day by the people in their district.

It's not on paper and signed by everyone yet.

The e-mails and calls were orchestrated by our gracious President. The real people don't have access to telephone calls to the Congress and computers.

But you have Boehner and Mc Connell bragging about that they got 98% of what they wanted, so that leaves 2% that the Dems get out of the bill. I wonder how that will go when the actual vote is done. I bet you this isn't over yet.. We will see if there is 2% of the Dems that vote for that one-sided bill...

I am with you, who knew-899304, if no stipulations are made they will just blow the tax increase too. It needs to be raised and used solely on debt reduction.

And Obama doesn't need any help making himself look bad, Josephelk, he's a big boy now, out of short pants, and needs to handle himself accordingly. All his blaming makes him childish.

LOL, are you talking about President Obama being childish? Obama wasn't the one walking out of meetings and throwing fits like the GOP/Baggers were doing during this whole raising the debt ceiling/budget cut talks, the debit ceiling should of been raised no questions asked just like it has been since 1917 and the rest of the talks should have taken place on there own as a separate package. tyler This @!$%# with the baggers being only 1/3 of the Government and holding America hostage is childish.

But.....we all know that the checks are going in the mail, only Nancy Pelosi has the bad taste of talking about the mi/billionairs and jet setters, when she belongs to the same pack, the difference is that we pay her.

2 trillion over 10 years......that's 200 billion a year in cuts, if and when that happens. At the debt level currently in place, we pay more than 200 billion per year just in interest. How are we getting out of the hole again?
